It depends on how much care you want to give them, whether or not you want annual or perennial and what zone you are in, and how close to tree roots you are planting. The best plants for full sun in zones 4-8 I have ever seen are as follows: Perennial: Salvia "May Night", Phlox "David", creeping thyme, Coreopsis "Jethro Tull", Sempervivum, Aquilegia (commonly called "Columbine"), Alcea (commonly called "Hollyhocks"), Dianthus (carnations and pinks), Gaura, Digitalis, and MANY others. Annual: Salvia "Hot Lips, Fuego, Lady in Red, Black and Blue, and Midnight", Statice, Celosia, Petunias, Geraniums, Helichrism, Vinca, and soooooo many more.

Potatoes should be planted in the winter for best results, especially in Louisiana. They need full sun, and they often can't get full sun if they are planted in August, because by the time they grow, it is winter.
Asparagus plants should be planted in full sun only.

Most flowers like all the sun they can get. The flowers I would recommend for you would be: sunflowers, lilies, daisies, and cattails. Not any thin or fragile type of flowers.

Cherry trees grow best in zones 4, 5, 6, and 7. They can be planted in any soil and require full sun exposure.
I planted the flowers in the garden yesterday.
I believe most iris like to be planted in full sun in most zones in the U.S. Exposing the rhizome may encourage the plant to flower.

Dont water them too much because too much water will cause the flowers to wilt. Also put in a place where it will get sun at least a couple times a day if you are wanting to have them in vases inside. Not too much sun though. If your flowers are planted outside, then water them once a day.
