∙ 14y agoIt depends on how much care you want to give them, whether or not you want annual or perennial and what zone you are in, and how close to tree roots you are planting. The best plants for full sun in zones 4-8 I have ever seen are as follows: Perennial: Salvia "May Night", Phlox "David", creeping thyme, Coreopsis "Jethro Tull", Sempervivum, Aquilegia (commonly called "Columbine"), Alcea (commonly called "Hollyhocks"), Dianthus (carnations and pinks), Gaura, Digitalis, and MANY others. Annual: Salvia "Hot Lips, Fuego, Lady in Red, Black and Blue, and Midnight", Statice, Celosia, Petunias, Geraniums, Helichrism, Vinca, and soooooo many more.
