Islam does not forbid the eating of nuts. However it does forbid eating something that is harmful to your health, which makes a great deal of sense. Obviously if you have a nut allergy then this is the case.

This depends to what "nut allergy" refers. A tree nut allergy would include "true" nuts, including sunflower seeds, almonds, cashews, etc. A peanut allergy is actually to a legume, so eating sunflower seeds would be safe as long as they were not processed in a plant that also processes peanuts or peanut-containing products.
