When you have Diabetes, you can have anything really just as long asyou monitor your blood glucose levels. If you have Type 1 Diabetes and you are on an insulin pump , then all you have to do is bolus for what you have eaten . If you have Type 2 Diabetes, then you have to monitor your diet and excercise.
Foods that are good for you
Note:
It is more a question of quantity than what you eat. If you eat small quantities, you can eat a large variety of foods - even an occasional candy - without affecting your blood sugar levels too much.
Eat small meals and snacks every 3-4 hours, and combine fruit and starchy food with fibers (vegetables) as this "fools" the body.
And what are the bad foods?
What other advice?
The easiest way to follow a diet for Type 2 Diabetes is a low carbohydrate diet. It's not necessarily just a complete absence of sugar in your diet as some people tend to assume. I'll give details about my diet, which has kept my a1c tests at just 5.6, so I know it works.
Look at a nutritional information sticker on a food or drink label. Where is 'sugar' listed under? Carbs. With sugar being a carbohydrate, it doesn't matter if you eat something high in carbs with minimal sugar, or start ingesting sugar straight out of a bowl - your body is going to metabolize it the exact same way, and it will raise your blood sugar.
That being said, your endocrinologist will either tell you how many carbs you can consume per meal, or they may refer you to a diet specialist to assist you.
Keep within what you're told your carb limit is, or as close to it as possible, and most certainly eat healthier foods than before you became a diabetic. I look at my diagnosis as my body telling me "you really messed up now, now look at you..." so I took this as a chance to reset my bad habits at eat healthier.
Be sure to give yourself an occasional cheat day. Go ahead and have a day every once in a while to eat "like the old days" - well, sort of. Don't necessarily go out and destroy a buffet or clean-out the dollar menu at a fast food joint, but eat something you love that you've had to restrict that's high in carbs. Pasta, some Pizza, etc. Having this occasional cheat allows you to stay on your diet without having to worry about going off the deep end and just completely gorging yourself, which is a common reason why people give-up on diets.
There are many foods that fit into a Type 2 Diabetes plan. Many of these foods are carbohydrates and fiber. Some of these foods include: rice, milk, grain, and yogurt.
Type 2 diabetes can be bested with a diet that is low in sugar. Sugar tends to throw off people with type 2 diabetes, so it is best to avoid it as much as possible.
Eat foods that are low in sugar content and will not mess with the sugar levels of your body. Eat healthy foods and controlled portions. Include more vegetables and lean meats in your diet.

Yes, there is type 1 diabetes. And there is type 2 diabetes. One is hereditary and the other you get from eating food high in sodium or lack of excercise.
A good type 2 diabetes diet will include servings of healthy carbohydrates (like fruit, milk, yogurt, breads and grains), at least 25 grams of fiber per day, and lower fat food.
From the way it seems you can have the same diet plan for type 1 and type 2 diabetes. It is best to talk to your doctor about it, but this site offered me some great information. http://www.diabetes-and-diabetic-diet.com/
Carbohydrates are one of the major food categories (the others include proteins and fats) in a type 2 diabetes diet. They provide fuel for the body in the form of glucose. Glucose is a sugar that is the primary means of energy for all of the body's cells.
type 1
Medications for Type 1 diabetes can be used on a patient with Type 2 diabetes and visa versa. This is the same with diets. However, you must take caution by speaking with your doctor about which diet plan is the best for your current condition.
The best place to find a good diabetic diet plan would be to check at diabetes.org. They have all the updated information on diets. They work directly with people who have diabetes.
Type 2 is more prevalent. Type 1 is usually diagnosed in younger children and young adults. Type 2 is mostly diagnosed in adults over the age of 30 and there is usually family history, but there are always a few that do not fit the typical criteria, but type 2 is usually the most common form.
