Food groups usually consist of simple foods, not combined ones. For example: an apple is a fruit. An apple pie is not. You could say that the soup belongs to multiple groups.

Soup in and of itself isn't in a food group... it would be a composition of the food groups where the ingredients came from. E.g., vegetable soups in a non-meat broth would just be in the vegetable food group, whereas chicken noodle soup would contain meat, starches, and possibly vegetables. A soup with cheese in it would have dairy, etc.

Lentil soup would go under the meat food group. Lentil soup belongs in this group because it is high in protein.
