There can be many different things causing a low sodium level in your body. Some of these things include consuming too many fluids, kidney failure, heart failure, cirrhosis, and the use of diuretics.
Apparently foods rich in potassium tend to flush sodium (most of which are from processed foods) out of the body. Examples of potassium rich foods include bananas, apricots, nuts (particularly peanuts, walnuts), fish (particularly tuna and halibut) strawberries, Oranges, broccoli, tomatoes, potatoes, avocado, squash. Meat is also high in potassium, however consuming a lot of meat offsets the benefit.
What does low sodium do to the body?

The Pancreas controlls the glucose levels in the body. If a living organism takes in too much, its shoots out a type of insulin which lowers the levels of sugar. Alternativly, if there is not enough sugar in the body, the insulin assists in raising the glucose levels in the body until normal.
