The two territories or areas occupied by the French were Algeria and the Saarland. Algeria was a French colony from 1830 until its independence in 1962, while the Saarland was under French occupation from 1947 to 1956 before becoming a separate territory within West Germany.
Western sahara is a Moroccan territory. the occupied eastern sahara ( south of french algeria) is Moroccan too. algeria never had a sahara before being a french colony.The last colony in africa is the eastern sahara.

Often if allied aircraft crashed in a German occupied land, the French forces known as the "Maquis" would assist them in escape, so the French were accepted as a valuable ally to most all the "good guys" UK forces seemed to most often work with Frech forces.
