It depends on the culture.

Japanese do not like very sweet things, so they would likely turn down a Red Haven Peach.

In that vein, the Red Havens are all but extinct (you can find them in central Ohio), because while being the best and sweetest-tasting fruit, grocers cannot transport them without bruising. Pawpaws fall into this "pit" as well.

Americans like very sweet, buttery things, but *very few* Americans like a durian. It is very sweet and much like a heavy, smooth custard, but it's smell makes Americans nearly lose their lunch. I tried it, but even after cutting it with heavy cream, it still was a bit much. Please note that you can buy durians in the US, but only in "real" Far Eastern grocery stores.
