Fiber is generally used to prevent constipation, diverticular disease and various other bowel problems.
Different types of fiber are used for different things. Soluble fiber, generally found in bran, is known to help reduce blood cholesterol levels and normalize blood sugar levels.
Whereas insoluble fiber, found in nuts and seeds, is known to help with bowel regularity. Most plant sources contain a mixture of both soluble and insoluble fibers.
