∙ 6y agoWhat each function key does depends on what program you are using; that is, different programs are free to use the function keys for different things - both by themselves and in combination with some other keys. Some functions have become more or less standardized; for example, in a Windows environment, F1 means "help" in many programs, while Alt-F4 will usually close a program. Many other function keys can vary a lot, depending on the program you use.
