It depends on the plastic that is burning, usually carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide are released when the plastic burns since it is a combustion process, but other toxic gases may be released such as if you burn PVC you get chlorine gas which is very toxic and corrosive.

∙ 9y agoIf there is not enough oxygen at the exact place the flame is, carbon monoxide is emitted. (This is different from enough air being in the general vicinity - remember, smoke displaces air.) After that, the fumes depend on the plastic - polyurethane generates cyanide, for instance.
