Subsequently, entire towns and cities of Armenians were forcibly expelled from their hometowns by the Ottoman military, marched for weeks without food or water (leading to many dying on the road), and a number were massacred and deposited in mass graves. Ottoman Turkish soldiers were unconscionably brutish, belligerent, and murderous and there were top-down orders from Young Turk Leaders like Ismail Enver Pasha that the Armenians should be exterminated. Armenian Churches were destroyed, Armenian Holy Sites desecrated, Armenian cities were renamed in Turkish to erase their historic imprint on the land, and the Armenian language was forbidden.Every single human right that the Armenians should have had was violated.
