Well, a lot of punk rockers (and just rockers in general) seem to love Horror movies and horror stories...myself included. I'm not really sure why. Maybe because the purpose of both horror movies/books and punk rock is to shock people, and force people to think about things that they'd rather not think about.
But really, you should write whatever kind of book you want to write. That's what punk rock is all about: being original and doing your own thing, instead of doing what you think people might want or expect you to do. Think about what kind of story you would really love to write, and then go write it.
And don't worry about picking a genre. That just boxes you in. It imposes limitations on you. Don't try to decide what kind of story it's going to be until you've written a significant amount, and you know what you're doing and where the story is going.
