Another major source of planetary heating is from radioactive decay - primarily from such isotopes as uranium-238, uranium-235, thorium-232, and potassium-40. The gas giants of our solar system have an additional source: from internal pressure. Since gas can be significantly compressed, this compression leads to a significant source of heat (the terrestrial planets, being made of rock and metal, can only compress slightly). This is the main reason why Jupiter and Saturn actually give off more heat than they recieve.

The sun gives off heat and light to what?

Planets in the solar system which orbit the sun.

What gives heat and light to all the planets?

Nuclear Fusion and Fission from the Suns' core.

How do planets get their light and heat?

From the Sun like we do & distance from there determines temp> For example Venus is very hot, but Pluto-the opposite.

Why are outer planets made mostly of gas?

mainly because they are not shown by the sun.The sun gives heat, oxygen, and more.

How does the temperature of the planets vary with the distance from the sun?

The further a planet is from the sun, the less light and heat radiation it gets from the sun leaving it a cooler planet. However, a planet with a gaseous atmosphere is less likely to radiate away the planets heat so it may retain more of the solar heat.

Gravity and heat.

What reaction gives out heat and other kinds of energy?

Endothermic

Is heat transfer convection why or why not?

Heat transfer is accomplished often on earth and other planets and the stars by convection, but there are other ways of heat transfer. Heat is transferred by radiation as the sun to earth, and sensible heat is transferred by conduction, simply being in contact.

What is hotter planets or stars?

stars, the planets have to get heat from stars

Does the sun heat up the earth because the earth is smaller?

the sun gives off energy to all the planets no matter the size. but it depends where its at in the orbit
