The Ukrainian educational system does not have "grades" as they exist in the US. The average Ukrainian finishes secondary school at 17 years of age with the equvalent of an 11th grade education. As post-secondary education is state subsidised most people go on to earn a "Specialists Degree" which is equivalent to a Master's Degree with one extra year of study. Interestingly most women continue their education whilst men are far less likely to, this is one of the reasons many Ukrainian women give for seeking foreign husbands.

Elementary school- Kindergarten - grade 5 Then middle school- grade 6 - grade 8 Then finally high school- grads 9 - grade 12
