It depends on the college. You could always call and ask the admissions office for the college you're interested in what the median high school GPA of entering freshmen was last year. (Actually, this being the 21st century and all, that information is probably on their web page somewhere.) Anything above that is good. Anything below that is ... well, considering that half the people they let in were below that, it's not necessarily "bad" unless you're a lot below that. Anything below 3.0 is not horribly promising, below 2.5 is downright sketchy, and if you have to look up to see a C average, then college probably isn't for you anyway.
Note that most high schools and colleges in the US use a 4 point scale. If by chance you're at one of the few that use something else (like the E/S/M/I/F 11-point system) your guidance counselor will be able to convert your GPA into the 4 point scale so you can see how you stack up.
