Malaysia Day is different from National day/Independence day(31 August 1957). Malaysia Day (16 September 1963) is the formation of Penisular Malaysia(before was name Malaya) and Sabah with Sarawak. Malaysia Day is usually just an acknowledgement of the day not a public holiday. The reason Sabah and Sarawak makes 16 September a holiday because on the same day, it's the Head of State (both Sabah & Sarawak) official Birthday. However, there was a call and occasionally debate on establishing the Malaysia Day as a nationwide celebrated holiday. The topic is fairly political and open for discussion, especially after the 2008 March 8th General Election.
Teacher's Day in Malaysia is always on May 16th.
They are in different time zones, but that means for some part of the day, they are in the same calendar day. Malaysia will start a new day before any part of the United States does, at which time Malaysia will be in the next calendar day, but the United States will enter that day too, much later. It is only places in the exact same time zone that are in the same day all of the time. For anywhere else, one place will reach the new day before another does, but they will all eventually be on the same day. So Malaysia and the United States do spend some time in the same calendar day.
