Jesus did not come back but stayed 40 more days after his 'resurrection'
Answer:
YES! "According to the scriptures"... Jesus ascended to the throne of His Father in heaven on "the day after the Sabbath" ['Sunday' by our calendar, today] that fell during the Passover, to "be accepted on your behalf" by the Father as an acceptable sacrifice for our sins.
Then, He returned to be with His disciples for the forty days mentioned above.
Mary came to apply the ointments to Jesus' body after the Sabbath(s) of that week [there were TWO that week; the Passover, an annual Sabbath and the weekly Sabbath - Saturday by our calendar, today]. There had been no time to purchase, prepare and apply these ointiments to Jesus' body until after the Sabbaths of that week; which made it very early on "our" Sunday [the day after the weekly Sabbath, "our" Saturday] before Mary could get to the tomb. Of this account, John tells us:
"She glanced over her shoulder and saw someone standing behind her. It was Jesus, but she didn't recognize Him! ...'Mary!' Jesus said. She turned toward Him. 'Master!' she exclaimed. 'DON'T TOUCH ME,' HE CAUTIONED, 'FOR I HAVEN'T ASCENDED TO THE FATHER. But go find my brothers and tell them that I ASCEND TO MY FATHER and your Father, My God and your God.'" (John 20:14-17 LVB The Living Bible)
Jesus did indeed ascend to the Father's throne in heaven, to present HIMSELF to His Father as the PERFECT SACRIFICE for our sins. It was just one more of the prophetic phases of God's plan for our salvation that Jesus would FULFILL during this first half of His earthly ministry. [And that He shall continue to fulfill for the final phases of that plan]
The high priest was to "wave" before God a "cut off" sheaf of the crop from the "firstfruits" of the early spring harvest for His acceptance:
"...bring the first sheaf of the harvest to the priest on THE DAY AFTER THE SABBATH [Sunday]. HE SHALL WAVE IT before the Lord in a gesture of offering, and IT WILL BE ACCEPTED BY THE LORD AS YOUR GIFT." (Lev.23:9-11 LVB)
(same passage; NLT New Living Translation): "...harvest your first crops, bring the priest some grain from the FIRST PORTION of your grain harvest. On THE DAY AFTER THE SABBATH [Sunday], the priest will LIFT IT UP BEFORE THE LORD so IT MAY BE ACCEPTED ON YOUR BEHALF."
Jesus Christ ascended to His Father's throne on that "Sunday" of the week that He was sacrificed for us: the FIRSTFRUITS of God's "early spring harvest":
"...Christ has been raised from the dead. He has become THE FIRST OF A GREAT HARVEST of those who will be raised to Life again... But there is an order to this resurrection. CHRIST WAS RAISED FIRST; then when He comes back, all His people will be raised." (I Cor.15:20-23 NLT)
(same passage; KJV): "...now is Christ risen from the dead, and become THE FIRSTFRUITS of them that slept [died]... But every man in his own order: CHRIST THE FIRSTFRUITS; afterward they that are Christ's at His coming."
Jesus rose from the dead "according to the scriptures" [I Cor.15:4]... three days and three nights after His death on the Passover that week [which fell on 'our' Wednesday]. He rose from the grave three days and three nights later at the same time of day that He was buried; in the evening just before 'sundown.' That makes the day of His resurrection on that FOLLOWING WEEKLY SABBATH EVENING, just before sundown! And He was already ris-EN... not ris-ING on "the day after the Sabbath"... 'our' Sunday.
And sometime in the course of that Sunday... Jesus ascended to His Father to be accepted by Him as the Perfect Sacrifice for mankind. Then He returned for the forty days with His disciples.
Notice, that Mary wasn't allowed to "touch" Him at the tomb, because He had not yet ascended to His Father. But later on when He appeared to them all -- THEY ALL HANDLED HIM -- because He had returned from heaven, and had been accepted by His Father by that time.
No.
It is said that he stayed on earth for 40 days after he rose from the dead.
Acts 1:3 speaks of him "being seen of them forty days".
Jesus appeared to His followers and disciples. He gave His disciples their Great Commission, He promised to send them the Holy Ghost, and He finally ascended to heaven.

Nowhere. After Jesus' resurrection, and a short period of 40 days on the earth, he ascended to heaven.
he went up into heaven after telling his people to tarry in Jerusalem for the outpouring of the holy ghost
Ascension Thursday is 40 days after Easter because Jesus left 40 days after He resurrected, and Pentecost Sunday is 10 days after Ascension Thursday because the Holy Spirit filled Jesus' disciples 10 days after He left. (So the gift of the Holy Spirit was 50 days after the Resurrection.)
Lent is the 40 days of fasting and prayer before Easter. It represents the 40 days that Jesus spent in the desert where he was tempted by Satan. The purpose of Lent is the preparation of the believer-through prayer, penitence, almsgiving and self-denial-for the annual commemoration during Holy Week of the Death and Resurrection of Jesus, which recalls the events linked to the Passion of Christ and culminates in Easter, the celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
40 is special in the bible as there was a flood for 40 days, Jesus fasted for 40 days and 40 nights. After Jesus arose from the grave he stayed for 40 days on earth.
