The water molecules split into hydrogen ions, electrons and oxygen atoms. The oxygen atoms join together to form oxygen molecules = oxygen gas which is released from the plant into the air. The hydrogen ions get taken up by a carrier molecule called NADP. The electrons become energised using the light energy that has been trapped by the chlorophyll and eventually join the hydrogen ions attached to the NADP. Ultimately the hydrogen ions and energised electrons join with carbon dioxide to form simple sugars = carbohydrate, from which ALL other organic compounds in the plant are made.
Chlorophyll is the primary pigment that absorbs sunlight during photosynthesis. It is the pigment that is able to absorb the light energy and convert it into chemical energy by loosing electrons easily when struck by light.
The green pigment is called "chlorophyll".

Found in the thylakoid membranes of chloroplasts, photosystems are clusters of chlorophyll and other pigment molecules that absorb sunlight for photosynthesis.
Which molecules are essentially required to absorb solar energy to carry out photosynthesis?

Plants absorb the sun's energy for use during photosynthesis. During photosynthesis, plants take energy & water and convert it into glucose. Glucose is a sugar that the plant then uses as food.
Photosynthesis uses light energy along with carbon dioxide to make molecules, or food energy. This food energy is stored in chemical bonds.
