Santa Ana heard that Texans were not converting to Catholicism. He decided to convert them by the sword. He entered Texas with an army of 10,000 solders.

At the Battle of the Alamo, General Santa Ana and his Mexican Army attacked a fortress guarded by an army of 80 Texans. Santa Ana used siege tactics. Each Texan killed many Mexican solders for every Texan killed. Finally Santa Anna conquered the Alamo with an army greatly reduced in size.

After a few such disastrous victories, the army of 10,000 men was reduced to 3,000 men when it surrendered at the Battle of San Jacinto.
