The Britannic got torpedoed off the coast of the coast of Greece in 1916 when it was acting as a hospital ship during the first world war.

On 25 August 1914, the newly-designated HMS Oceanicdeparted Southampton to patrol the waters from the North Scottish mainland to the Faroes, in particular the area around Shetland, and ran aground and was wrecked off the island of Foula, Shetland on 8 September 1914.
The Mauretania was withdrawn from service in 1934. Her contents were auctioned off in 1935 and the ship was delivered to shipbreakers for demolition.
