In 1982, Canada ended its relationship with the United Kingdom in which the British Parliament was authorized to make changes the Canadian Constitution. From that time forward, Canada was authorized to make its own laws without stricture.
The Canada Act was first granted royal assent in London on March 29 1982. The Canada constitution was thereafter passed by the Canadian parliament on April 17 granting full political independence to Canada from the United Kingdom. This included Canada's first Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
