"The Cask of Amontillado" is a story by Edgar Allen Poe which describes a man walling up his rival in his basement. The problem in the story is the fact that the protagonist is tired of the other man's bragging, so he decides to kill him in a really sadistic way.

In "The Cask of Amontillado," the character Montresor leads Fortunato into a catacomb under false pretenses, then walls him up alive as revenge for an insult. Montresor feels no remorse for his actions, and the story ends with him proudly stating that he has gotten away with the perfect crime.

To make a short story shorter, what happened is that a man named Montresor tells the story of a murder he committed 50 years before. He relates the fact that he had suffered a thousand injuries from a man named Fortunato, but when Fortunato also insulted him, Montresor decide to seek revenge by murdering Fortunato is such a way that he would never be caught. He knows Fortunato is vain and proud of his ability to judge wines so he uses that vanity to lure Fortunato into his cellar under the pretense that he has obtained what he thinks is a cask of a rare wine, Amontillado. Fortunato cannot refuse a chance to show off so he insists they go. Montresor takes Fortunato through the cellar, past piles of bones and web-like patterns of nitre on the walls all the time promising Fortunato the chance to taste the prized Amontillado wine. They get to the end of the passageway to a small crypt-like room where Montresor surprises Fortunato by chaining him to the wall. He then builds a wall across the opening of the room to seal in Fortunato for the rest of his soon to be short life. He leaves Fortunato behind the completed wall, which has remained undisturbed for the past half century with Fortunato resting in peace all that time.
