A big result of the Civil War was the passing of the 13th and 14th amendments. The 13th amendment abolished (ended) slavery, and the 14th allowed black residents of the United States to become citizens & gave everyone equal protection under the law (among other things). The Confederate and Union states rejoined into one country. The USA started rebuilding itself in what is called the Reconstruction Era.
