After his early death, some in the east reverted to their native rule. In the west, his general fought each other, dividing it up into kingdoms for their own. It eventually settled down into Egypt, Syria, Pergamon and Macedonia.
Alexander the great conquered a vast empire that stretched from Greece to Egypt and as far east as India. He implemented a policy of cultural assimilation, encouraging the blending of Greek and local cultures. This resulted in the spread of Greek language, architecture, and customs, and the creation of Hellenistic kingdoms that endured for centuries after his death.

Alexander probably deserved the title "great" more than any other man with that title. By the time he was 33, he had conquered Greece and most of the rest of the world which was known to Greeks. His personal character showed noble traits by the standards of his age. He was tutored by Aristotle, and his efforts resulted in the spread of Greek culture thought the areas he conquered.

Alexander first had to conquer the empire to rule it. By the time he had finished the conquest, he died. So we would have to imagine what he might have done if he had lived to fully implement the areas he had already begun - to Hellenise the empire as a civilising influence on society.

Alexander the Great conquered the Persian Empire, but he did not conquer 'most of the world' - he did not get near east Asia, he did not conquer Europe, he did not conquer most of Africa, he had never even heard of North and South America or the Pacific. Addition: The typical expression is that Alexander the Great conquered "most of the known world" meaning that the majority of the areas that he did not conquer were not civilized at that time. Further: Alexander wanted to take India, but his army refused, and is recorded to have planned on moving through Europe, with Carthage and north Africa, Italy, Sicily and Spain as targets. Even he did not think that he had conquered 'most of the known world'.
No Roman emperor wanted to conquer the lands that Alexander the Great had conquered. The Roman conquests in areas which Alexander had conquered occurred during the period of the Roman Republic, before the period of rule by emperors and before there were Roman emperors. These various conquests, which occurred at separate times, had nothing to do with a desire to conquer Alexander's former territories.
