Of the five sisters of President John F. Kennedy, only 86-year-old Jean Kennedy Smith survives.

Kathleen "Kick" Kennedy Cavendish was killed with her fiancé, the Earl Fitzwilliam, in a May 1948 plane crash in France. She was 28 years old.

Eldest sister Rose Marie "Rosemary" Kennedy, who was institutionalized as a child because of severe disabilities (and lobotomized at the age of 23), died January 7, 2005 at the age of 86.

Patricia "Pat" Kennedy Lawford, who was married to actor Peter Lawford, died September 17, 2006 at the age of 82.

Eunice Kennedy Shriver, whose daughter Maria Shriver was the former First Lady of California and an NBC News correspondent, died of a stroke at the age of 88 on August 11, 2009. The founder of the Special Olympics, she passed away two weeks before her youngest brother, U.S. Senator Edward M. "Ted" Kennedy died of brain cancer.

Jean Kennedy Smith, who will observe her 87th birthday on February 20, 2015, is the last of the nine children of former U.S. ambassador to Great Britain Joseph P. Kennedy (1888-1969) and Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy (1890-1995).
