A short search of the genealogy web sites turns up a Colonel Josiah Maples who died in Raleigh, TN (today a neighborhood within Memphis) and is buried in Rossville, TN on 09/22/1876.

He was married to Mary Ann (Marshall) Maples in 1854. They had seven children.
