A storm approached, and would not let him approach the shores. Ino, gives Odysseus her veil to protect him. Odysseus stays on his raft. Eventually the storm destroys his raft, and throws Odysseus into the shoals, almost killing him, but luckily he misses the rocks. Odysseus asks a river god for help who helps push him upstream and onto the shores of Scheria.

This depends on which instance you are speaking of. Odysseus wakes up on several islands, including Scheria, land of the Phaecians; Ogygia, Calypso's island; and Ithaca, his home island. On Scheria, and Ogygia he is glad to be alive and curious about his surroundings. On Ithaca, he is curious about his surroundings, and mildly doubtful that he is in Ithaca. He feels betrayed by the Scherians who promised to take him home, since he does not recognize Ithaca after twenty years.
