In 1658, Shah Jahan fell ill and followed the War of Succession between his four sons, Dara Shukoh, Shah Shuja, Aurangzeb and Murad Bakshsh. After his victory, Aurangzeb ascended the throne, after confining Shah Jahan in the Agra fort.
