Korea never saw Conflict during the second world war, i think you mean the Korean War during the Cold war, and the US troops pulled out after a peace treaty was signed between the north and south, along the 38th parallel, the US and NATO troops trained and armed the south Korean's before pulling out, so if war broke out, South Korea would be able to defend itself. The US only got involved because of the fear of Communism spreading to the south (North Korea was already Communist)

North Korea used to keep invading South Korea to make it too come under a communist influence.So, South Korea went to ask help from the UN. So..this is the Korean Crisis.. :)
