No one knows. No evidence has ever been found as to what happened to them.
The Book of Lehi was a part of the 116 manuscript pages that were lost by Martin Harris. Joseph Smith was told not to re-translate the Book of Lehi because the important parts of the Book of Lehi were contained elsewhere in the Book of Mormon.
They were really lost! Nobody has ever found them. There are no records of an attempt to publish them, as some rumors say. What we do know is that when Martin Harris took the pages home, his wife allowed him to hide them in her locked chest of drawers. Martin Harris broke the lock in attempt to pick it open to get the manuscript out while his wife wasn't home. His wife was very irritated, and several days later they had disappeared. A friend of the Harris family, Pomeroy Tucker, claimed that Harris' wife burned the manuscript while Martin was away. Some have argued the validity of this statement can be based on her desire to have Joseph Smith end his friendship with Martin Harris. Apparently she did it in attempt to cause a rift between the two men. Unfortunatley for her, the attempt did not work. Martin Harris mortgaged his farm to pay for the printing of the Book of Mormon. Although he lost his farm and his wife, he stayed with Joseph Smith. (Although between 1837 and 1870, he was considered apostate for his invovement with several faction groups)
Joseph Freeman - Mormon - was born in 1952.
