The Mother & Baby Home was opened in a village in Ireland from 1925 to 1961. The home closed down in the 1970s and in 1975 two local boys found skeletal remains of children in a septic tank (locals at first believed the remains were famine victims from the 19th century, then in 2012 a local historian noticed the tank was dried up since the Mother and Baby Home opened in 1925. Because the children were born from unwed mothers, they were raised and treated by the Catholic nuns who ran the home to be outcast of society. Records of their causes of death included illnesses like pneumonia, measles and tuberculosis, whooping cough. Some were preemies, or were born delicate. Some had various deformities and were epileptics. Some perished from malnutrition.

Why did baby boom happen?

The baby boom happened when our soldiers started coming home after the end of world war II. They had been away from their wife's and girlfriends for 1 to four years and were in the mood for lots of loving. Hundreds of thousands of babies were born during this period of time and that is why they are called baby boomers. I hope you understand my explination. rjwhite2
