In the medieval towns and cities where I have lived, the dead were buried in the ground. This was England, and other countries probably had people who did things other ways, but I think it was usual for Christians in Europe of that time to bury the dead so they could be risen from the grave for the final resurrection.
I know some ancient pagans burned their dead, and parts of Europe were pagan through much of the Middle Ages.
People had crazy ideas about how to stop the plague, they thought that trying not to breath in the air around them would help but it didnt work. Have you ever heard the rhyme ringa ringa roses? this is linked with the black death. ringa ringa roses= when you got the plague you got rings on your skin. a pocket full of poses= they believed that carrying herbs with you would help. atishoo atishoo = when you got the black death you started sneezing and coughing and that's how the virus spread. we all fall down= none of those crazy ideas worked so everybody died. oh dear.
During the Black Death, the people of Europe dealt with the bodies just as they had previously to the disease. They let the body lie around several days before they took it out and buried it.
That of course was the worst thing they could have done. Since people had fleas which carried the disease, the fleas would leave the corpse and infect other people.
They also saved the dead person's clothes.
That also was bad because those clothes also had infected fleas.
For that reason, the Jews fared much better than other groups. They would bury the body immediately after death and get rid of the dead person's clothes. They would ritually and actually clean the place. As a result they got rid of both evil spirits and infected fleas.
They either buried them, left them out in the streets or burned the dead bodies.
Carts did rounds on a regular basis collecting bodies for mass burials.
Many people were buried in mass-graves because of the vast numbers of people who died. Some people were buried before they had even died!
They buried them in mass graves.

A lack of sanitaiton and proper sewage systems drew in rats that carried the disease
