What the timing belt does is synchronize the movement of the valves (via the camshaft) to correspond with the up and down motion of the pistons inside the cylinder walls. When the belt breaks, the valves stop where they are and the pistons continue to move. Because the some of the valves are open (down in the cylinder wall), the piston will collide with the now stationary valve. This bends the valve and may also damage the camshaft because the stem of the valve will also hit the camshaft. You will likely need a new set of valves and maybe a camshaft.
Speak with your dealer.
either the timing belt broke or it ran out of oil
If the engine runs at all, the timing belt is not "broke."
Maybe the timing belt broke.
If you think your Timing Belt broke DO NOT try to crank your car, if you continue to crank you car with a severed timing belt you will cause more damage. The only way you can tell for sure if the timing belt broke is to remove the upper timing cover and inspect the belt. If you see a naked cam sprocket your timing belt has broken and you will most likely need a top end engine rebuild.
yes!!!! if your timing belt is cracked or split, you should get it in asap! if your timing belt has broken the damage done all depends on what happened to break it/what were you doing when it broke? if you were driving when it happened ( not stopped) there will be extensive damage done if your car was on but you were stopped not as much damage.
No.
Happened to me in a Ford, I guess it could be many things but mine stoped because the Timing Chain broke
need to take that up with the dealer who fitted the belt. Hyundai will not cover parts they didn't supply, even if Hyundai dealer fitted them. Gates should offer warranty on belt anyway after only 2 weeks. Note depending on model that water pump replacement might not affect timing belt at all. Get an independent mechanic to tell you why the belt failed.
the LeSabre has a timing CHAIN. It does not need to be replaced. (unless you broke it :)
The tranny is broke.
When you have the belt put back on correctly it will be back in time.
if i remember correctly the 2001 still has an interference engine.....if your timing belt broke you surely pinged some valves.
