There is nothing to worry about if you have a longer than usual period, it's normal for some girls. Some go through only four days of it, some go through ten. Though, if it is more than ten days you should probably have a check up.

Some times, if this happens it could be a sign of abnormal or dysfunctional uterine bleeding; when the complex hormonal processes of the menstrual cycle are interrupted, it results in estrogen and progesterone levels that are out of balance which causes the excessive bleeding. This bleeding is related to irregularities of your menstrual cycle without any disease. So before jumping into conclusions its better to see you OB to make sure things are ok. Who knows it could be something as simple as hormone imbalance.
