Ugh! How could that be an attractive drink of choice for an 8 year old!? All young growing and developing bodies cannot physically cope with alcohol, it's a medical fact..ask your local doctor. If it's out of curiosity that you're trying some, you'll know by taste that it has an unusual flavour about it. Don't get used to it. Reach for a coke or another softdrink instead..at least you'll only risk cavities but with drinking alcohol you'll be risking far worse...dehydration, coordination deficiencies, slurring of speech, not to mention the effects it has on your growing organs - how hard your kidneys and liver would be working to break down the alcohol...make you very sick! Go out and kick a ball around with some friends and enjoy your freedom instead! Live! Love! Laugh!

Another answer:Pretty much the same things as when an adult drinks an alcoholic beverage: intoxication. Children, being smaller, will require less alcohol to become intoxicated, so one full 12oz. bottle will have lots more of an effect than it would on an adult.

As with adults, treat the condition. Mild intoxication is harmless. Unconsciousness is potentially dangerous, etc. The problem here is comparative dosage.

As the effects of ETOH on smaller bodies is comparatively stronger, and children don't typically have much experience with alcohol (one hopes), they cannot be expected to show judgment in matters of drinking. As such, I would advise keeping a closer control on access to Alcoholic Beverages around the home, in the future.
