We are always exposed to sun rays. The sun gives out radiation consisting of many different frequencies of light. The major component of light it gives off is visible light (which is why our eyes evolved to see visible light best). It also gives off infrared light, ultra violet light, and even more dangerous frequencies. Luckily, the atmosphere of earth filters out a lot of the dangerous frequencies (although not perfectly). If you stay in the sun too much without sunblock, the ultra violet light that gets through the atmosphere can lead to cancer (it's a game of probability). If you go outside of the atmosphere without protection somehow, the rays from the sun become much more dangerous. You would also be susceptable to cosmic radiation, which can lead to cancer.

Of course, the closer you get to the sun, the more concentrated the radiation will be, and the more dangerous it will be.

Ultraviolet sun rays responsible for burning skin?

Ultraviolet (UV) sun rays, specifically UVB rays, are responsible for burning the skin and causing sunburn. When the skin is exposed to excessive UVB rays, it can lead to inflammation, redness, and blistering. It is important to protect the skin from these rays by using sunscreen and seeking shade during peak sun hours.

How long is the northern hemisphere exposed to vertical rays of the sun?
