Yes.
no it is an interference motor ans will likely bend valves in the timing belt goes
Both the SOHC & DOHC engines are interference engines. If the belt goes while driving the engine most likely will be damaged.
If this is the European Escort This engine is classed as an interference engine. In the event of belt failiure the valves meet the pistons causing the valves to bend and possibly other engine damage.
yes it is. if i only knew that then.... MAKE SURE that you get the timing belt changed or else it will take out half your engine when it goes. that's what happened to mine. it would have cost about $300 or less to have the timing belt changed... instead, it cost over $1300 to have that and half the engine rebuilt once the belt broke.
Yes , the 1.5 liter engine in a 1991 Toyota Tercel IS AN INTERFERENCE ENGINE so if the timing belt breaks while the engine is running it can cause engine damage
The Mercury Villager does not have an interference engine (in spite of what you might hear) and will not be damaged if the belt breaks.
I would say almost all 4 cylinder engines (especially older models) are interference type, meaning if you timing belt goes bad, your valves go bad too.
Yes valves will bend if timing belt goes out while driven.
The timing belt goes and the valves bend.
motor won't start.
As this is an interference engine you will have internal engine damage if the belt breaks. The amount of damage can only be determined after removing the head.
