The lymphatic system is also responsible for cleaning the interstitial fluid, which is the fluid that surrounds all the cells in the body. When the lymphatic system does not function as it should, this fluid is not cleaned properly and bacteria and other infectious agents can propagate from the fluid and into the blood.
