Biting your nails can rip and tear your nails and the skin around your nails, causing bleeding, infectionsand a lot of pain! Your nails and fingertips can become so sensitive that you may even have to eat those salt and vinegar chips with a spoon. Not only that, but there are also lots of germs living underneath your nails! If you're chomping down on your nails, these germs can enter your mouth and you could get sick. Need another reason why it's not healthy? It damages your front teeth.

It is also socially unacceptable, and may keep a person who may be interested in you away for fear of other, possibly MORE disgusting personal habits.

You may end up permanently shortening their length while changing the open nail bed into smooth skin. Most people find this unattractive but there is a set of those that prefer this look and, if you can find one who does, you'll be very happy with the result.

The nail biting habit can result in certain diseases or parasites being transmitted, especially if the skin is broken. Worm infections are the most typical but relatively rare.

They normally become shorter. Unfortunately, I must base this hypothesis on a priori reasoning since I've never been able to get my feet anywhere near my face. Works for fingernails, though.

How can you stop biting your fingers?

You can stop biting your nails by applying no bite on your finger nails. Its like clear nail polish with a bitter taste to keep you from biting your nails. A lot of stores carry no bite. Another way to stop biting your nails is where nail polish. When your nails look good 99% of the time you won't bite them. Also my mom and I have tried soaking my finger nails in vingear or hot sauce. But after a while I got used to the taste so I continued to bite my nails. I hope this advice has helped you. Thank You.

What happens if you bit your fingers to your nub?

The correct expression is "bite your fingernails to the nub" or "bite your fingernails to the quick". You cannot bite your fingers to the nub---impossible. If you bite your fingernails to the nub, nub refers to the way your finger ends would look without a nail sticking out. Nails bitten so badly could bleed and cause the end of the fingers to be sore.
