In the United States to a destination within the United States as of December 2009, it would be 44 cents plus a 20 cent non-standard surcharge plus 17 cents for each ounce or fraction of an ounce over one ounce, up to 3.5 ounces. HIgher rates apply if the envelope is more than 1/4 inch thick or weighs over 3.5 ounces. So if the envelope is one ounce or less, the charge would be 64 cents. Hint: you can save the 20 cent surcharge by putting your envelope inside a standard rectangular-shaped envelope. Note: This answer was correct when it was written.
