After a certain period of time, all hair color will oxidize and sort of "shut itself off" and quit working. The color will reach the maximum depth and then stop working.
Leaving bleach on too long is a different story. Doing this will cause severe damage to the hair structure, leading to breakage.

∙ 13y agoThe color will not be fully processed if it is removed from the hair too soon. It will be lighter than expected, may fade faster or slip from the hair, and will not completely cover gray.
