A pit musician is one who played in the pit. The pit was a below floor level area in front of the stage in a theatre where a live orchestra would play to accompany the on-stage action, usually for a musical performance but occasionally for a play such as "The connection".
uisually the pit in a theatre is where the orchestra is, traditionally it's at the bottom of the stage nearest the audience.

Stuff Happens
The pit was a name for the area immediately surrounding the stage. The tickets for the Pit were and are the cheapest, because there are no seats. You have to watch the play standing up. You get a really close view of the stage, which enables you to be spat upon and maybe worse by the actors.
Traditionally, the pit is where the Musicians and a Conductor are when something is happening on the stage and music needs to be played. It is usually in front on the stage but in a hole in the ground so they musicians can be heard but not seen.
Nothing

The groundlings stood around the stage in The Pit. The main audience sat in the galleries around the stage. Favoured aristocrats got to sit on the stage itself. At the Globe, there was not much room for sitting on the stage. This was more popular at the Blackfriars, but at the Blackfriars even the spectators in the Pit had chairs (and paid for them!)
There is no difference between the yard and a pit in an Elizabethan theater. The two terms are synonymous. The pit was the area in front of the stage where people stood and watched the play. It was the cheapest part of the theater. Purchasing seats overlooking the stage cost an additional fee.
