He doesn't, book 7 accually comes before the events in book #5 and #6. He achieves the silver oakleaf in book seven and in book #5 Will is already a Ranger

Ranger's Apprentice book 5 is released in the US on 11/4/08 and book 6 is to be released in the spring of 2009.
It's written in the third person, if that's what you mean. It's pretty much the same writing style as the other books in the series, to be honest with you.

So far the answer is no. The latest book the Emperor of Nihon-Ja *spoiler* Will and Alyss and Horace and Evanlyn are engaged to be married and apparently the next book and possibly last book 11 will be a collection of stories which answer questions not answered so far
Well, it's all a bit confusing at first. Flanagan started writing Books 5 and 6 when he realized that he skipped over a very crucial part in Will's apprenticeship. Therefore, the events in Book 7 occur before Books 5 and 6--Book 7 is at the very end of Will's apprenticeship. Book 8, however, gets things back to normal, occuring after the events in 5 and 6. So, I suppose, Book 7 is a prequel of some sorts.
