In the war of 1812 an American army of 6,000 men commanded by General Stephen Van Rensselaer invaded Canada crossing the niagara river at Queenston. The Canadian Army commanded by British General Isaac Brock, was only 1,300 men, but attacked the Americans while they were in the process of crossing the river. The American forces became confused and panicked and retreated leaving about 1000 men trapped on the Canadian shore who were taken prisoner.
General Brock was killed in the battle.
