Since the Saltwater Fish's body has adapted to a certain level of salt and water in its environment, a sudden decrease in salt would cause water to rush into the fish's cells due to osmosis. The concentration of water has just been raised in the outside so it would go from high to low, from the water to inside the fish.

What would happen if a freshwater organism was put in saltwater?

If a jellyfish was placed in a freshwater lake, the jellyfish would be placed in a hypotonic environment. Osmosis says that water moves from areas of low solute concentration to high concentration, in order to reach a dynamic equilibrium. In other words, due to the fact that the jellyfish was placed in a hypotonic environment, or an area of low solute concentration compared to the jelly fish, its cells would be flooded with the fresh water and its cells would burst, causing the death of the jellyfish.

Why do jellyfish burst when moved from saltwater to fresh water?

Jellyfishes are evolved to live in saltwater, and their cells have mechanisms for absorbing water and excreting salts. However, in freshwater this ability works against them, causing them to swell up with water, and their cells burst.
