Why has Linux deleted my partition?
Linux will not delete a partition unless you tell it to. If you have accidentally deleted a partition, but have not written to the disk, you may be able to restore most or all of the data that was on it. The program "testdisk", found on many Linux LiveCDs and partition editors, can restore the deleted partition flags.

How do you remove a hard drive partition on windows vista?
Why the boot partition and the system partition cannot be deleted?
On MS platforms, the system partition is used to hold the boot files. The boot partition holds all the windows operating system files. Leave it to Microsuck to mis-lable the partition hiearchy. The system partition holds what is loaded and executed first after the computer runs through its preliminary BIOS boot sequence. It tells the computer where to start loading the operating system from; the boot partition. The boot partition is where all the program files (thousands of them) needed by the operating system are stored. If the system partition is deleted; the computer will not find the operating system. If the boot partition is deleted, again; the computer will not find the operating system.

Remove a partition on a Mac disk?
If you created more than one partition on startup disk then you should backup all the information on that disk before going any further. Restart the Mac from the Operating System Install disk, and use the Disk Utility program to remove the extra partition. Most Mac people find the only reason they need more than one partition is when installing Windows and / or Linux on the Mac startup disk.

Windows2000XP is installed using a system partition and a boot partition. which partition must be the active partition of the harddrive?
In a Windws PC, a sysem partition contains hardware level details of the hard disk and other partitions. It contains files that tell the Bios where to look for the boot loader, hence all disks must always have a system partition. A boot partition is any bootable partition in your hard drive that contains an Operating system or a bootable utility. The active Prtition in your case is the partition that contains the boot loader (Most cases the partition that contains the first installation of windows) inyour case windows 2000. This s also the System Partition not the boot partition

How do you extend system partition space when there is a low disk space problem?
What have you done to remove this low disk space problem? In my experiences, the ways for you to resolve this low disk space problem could be different according to your different conditions: * If there is too unnecessary files or programs stored on this C partition, clean them all up to free some free space. * If there is enough free space on other partition, like D, E or F partitions, you can open Disk Management, delete or shrink the partition with free space and add the free space to your C partition there. * If the free space is not adjacent to your C partition, you also can use a partition resizing tool to extend this partition, like GParted, IM-Magic Partition Resizer Free and Active Partition Master, etc. * But, if there is no any free space left on the same physical drive, just buy a larger one to replace the old one. No matter what your conditions are, just save all partition data on other places in case of data loss. Can you merge an active and boot partition with a system partition and still be able to boot?
First of all boot partition must be active by default or your system will not boot. Second, there is not such thing as a system partition. There is a system disk which is usually located on boot partition. If you are asking about whether you can change size of boot partition in cost of another partition the answer is yes. The best way to do that is to use one utilities designed for such purposes, for instance, Acronis Disk Director.
