The atmospheric pressure decreases and so does the boiling point. Water boils when it has enough energy to produce vapour anywhere within the liquid.

On top of Mt Everest water boils before it reaches 70 ºC. Mountaineers cannot have a hot drink because at ~65 ºC cools too much and does not warm up the mountaineers. To make the water boil at a higher temperature, a pressure cooker must be used. This increases the pressure and, therefore, the boiling point of the liquid.

so, theoretically, on a high mountain you cannot boil an egg because the water will never get to the egg's hardening point.

The temp decreases..ie. water "boils" at a lower temp the higher you go. So when you reach the top of the mountain and you are starving, you get out the little stove to boil water. The vacuumed packed shaved beef directions say "boil for 30 mins. then serve hot". IT WILL NOT BE HOT! It may still be frozen. If you are up really high, read "boil 3 hours or untl hot!!

It's the other way around. A decrease in pressure is often caused by a decrease in altitude. When pressure is lower, boiling point also lowers as individual molecules can vaporize more freely.

When there is an increase in altitude, the pressure for the boiling point is lower. A decrease in pressure causes a lowering of the boiling point.
