In physics, a quantum leap or jump is the change of an electron from one energy state to another within an atom. It is discontinuous; electrons jump from one energy level to another instantaneously, with no intervening or intermediary condition. The phenomenon contradicts classical theories, which expect energy levels to be continuous. Quantum leaps are the sole cause of the emission of electromagnetic radiation, including light, which occurs in the form of quantized units called photons. Ironically, when laymen use the term colloquially, they use it to describe large jumps in progress, when in reality a quantum leap is a very small change of state.
during a quantum leap an electron transitions from one quantum energy signature to another energy signature by absorbing or admitting a photon of energy in this process the electron simultaneously transitions directly from one electron shell level to a higher or lower electron shell level without moving through the space or time in between the two electron shell levels.

2008 was a leap year (past) and 2012 will be a leap year (future)
A leap yar occurs every four years. The exception is years ending in -00, where only the ones with the first two figures divisible by four is a leap year. E.g. 2000 is, but 1900 is not a leap year.
There were 20 leap years from 1929 through 2008. (the next one is 2012):19321936194019441948195219561960196419681972197619801984198819921996200020042008
There have been 13 leap years since 1959. The first one occurred in 1960, and the last was 2012. A leap year occurs every four years.
A quantum leap is the smallest possible change that an electron can make in an atom. It involves a discrete jump in energy levels when an electron transitions from one orbit to another. The size of a quantum leap is determined by the difference in energy levels between the initial and final states of the electron.

Photons are either created or absorbed when a electron makes a quantum leap inside an atom
Scott Bakula starred in Quantum Leap as Dr. Sam Beckett.
"The Leap Between the States - September 20, 1862" - Quantum Leap : Season 5, Episode 20 .
Here are a few ways you could use the phrase "quantum leap" in a sentence: The new technology represented a quantum leap in computing power. The company's success represents a quantum leap from where it was just a few years ago. The scientist made a quantum leap in understanding the fundamental nature of the universe. The athlete's performance showed a quantum leap from their previous record. The project's progress has been slow, but we hope to make a quantum leap in the next few weeks. 𝘩𝘵𝘵𝘱𝘴://𝘸𝘸𝘸.𝘥𝘪𝘨𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘦24.𝘤𝘰𝘮/𝘳𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘳/325658/𝘙𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘢16/

Change can happen over time,a quantum leap does not.The expression: a quantum leap comes from physics and refers to the orbit of electrons around the nucleus. The electrons cannot be anywhere but have to be in distinct energy regions. So for an electron to change orbit it must leap to the next energy or lower energy level it can not do it gradually.Similarly if a quantum leap is made it is a radical change not a gradual change. New discoveries in science can revolutionise traditional thinking overnight. One could say a quantum leap in understanding was made. Whereas, just about everything can change slowly over time but that is not a quantum leap.Change can be slow and gradual or even fast and high paced. The student quickly improved his language skills at the immersion school. Is an example of change.A quantum leap is jumping from one understanding to another. The student finally understood the difference in verb endings for the past tense and a quantum leap was made in his ability to understand and speak intelligibly. Vast progress was made when an impediment (obstacle) was removed.
