After the Civil War, Reconstruction in the South begins. Former slaves start going to Freedmen's schools; school's made for former enslaved people that were held in churches, abandoned buildings, bathrooms (sometimes), etc. Since President Andrew Johnson's idea on Reconstruction didn't include former slaves' rights, Congress passed the Civil Rights Act of 1866; a law that states that all persons born in the U.S. (except Native Americans) had the rights of any citizen. After it was passed, Johnson vetoed it, causing congress to pass the 14th Amendment. But soon the African Americans would meet a group of enemies called the Klu Klux Klan.

The Klu Klux Klan is a white racial group that targeted African Americans and anyone who supported helping slaves; such as the Freedmen's schools' teachers. In 1870, the 15th amendment was passed; an amendment allowing anyone (besides females) can vote despite race or color. This was a huge accomplishment to the former slaves.

I hoped this helps anyone. Thank you for reading!
