the loose material either dissolves in the ocean (thats why the ocean is so salty), it settles on the bottom of the ocean and becomes sedimentary rock, or it washes up on sorelines and becomes sand.

Why do cliffs retreat?

A cliff retreat is a form of natural erosion. Rocks in the face of the cliff are broken down by wind and water (rain, waves, etc). The material in the cliff is loosened, and parts of the cliff face collapse. Eventually, an entire section of the cliff will fall into the sea, meaning that the cliff edge has retreated. The pace of cliff retreat is determined by the strength of the rocks in the cliff face, more than the cliff's height. It also most often occurs where the base of the cliff is continually being saturated by water, weakening the rock further.

When waves cut large holes into the fractured or weak rock along the base of a sea cliff. what is formed?

Sea caves.

What does a wave-cut platform start with?

Wave-cut platforms begin forming as destructive waves hit against the cliff face, causing undercutting. This destruction of the base of a cliff may cause the cliff to eventually collapse. The collapsed material will eventually be weathered in to even smaller particles.

If waves erode the soft rock along the base of a steep coast the result may eventually be what kind of landform?

The landform is called a wave-cut cliff, or wave-cut platform, where a flat rock area extends into the sea, at or near the water level.

How do waves change the earths surface?

they continuously attack of wave under the cliff canes are formed.they sometime cuts the notch at the base of the surface.and when the notch grow the cliff fall and there appear a platform eroded at the base.wave some time change the surface of earth by the deposition of sand, mud and pebbles along the coast by shore drift.the soft rocks along the coastline is eroded by the continuous wave and bay are formed.but the hard rocks are not eroded and form capes.

What is found at the base of the cliff after it has been eroded and what collects here with the waves and rain?

Well sediment collects at the bases of cliffs that have been eroded. This is not to be confused with weathering which removes part of a surface but leaves no sediment. At the base of the cliff could be a weaker point of the cliff because of erosion.

What do bedrock material that are broken from a cliff and deposited by a landslide at the base of the cliff look like?

The deposit is known as scree. The scree is like a steep ramp of very loose stones and boulders that have tumbled down due to the eroding of the cliff or mountain.

What is made from large rocks and protects the base of the cliff?

In the UK the rock material your referring to is known as Riprap or rock armour.
